Bio - Peter Frampton

Born in London in 1950, Peter Frampton literally "grew up" in the film industry. Father, Harry Frampton, was one of the leading make-up technicians of his day and mother, Daphne, was a highly regarded script supervisor. As a child, Peter experienced the film industry from the other side of the camera, winning roles in several English films as a child actor.

Ultimately, Peter followed in the family tradition and established his own career as a make up technician at Pinewood, Shepparton, Elstree and Twickenham Studios, who at the time were producing what are now considered to be among the finest British films ever made. Although not apprenticed to his father, Peter did become his assistant on such classic films as Alfred Hitchcock’s "Frenzy" and Sam Peckinpah"s "Straw Dogs" and went on to become one of the world’s most sought after make-up artists in his own right.

During his exciting career, Peter travelled widely and established strong associations with leading identities in the film and television industry around the world.

Peter has a long list of movie credits and accolades to his name. Most notably, he has been nominated four times for British Academies, receiving the BAFTA for "Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan". The ultimate testament to his success was winning the 1995 Oscar for Best Make-Up for his work on the film "Braveheart" starring Mel Gibson.

In 1996, with this outstanding success and extensive career behind him, Peter made the decision to base himself in Australia and develop a course to pass on his skills to others. He set about designing, developing and then teaching a Diploma of Cinemagraphic Make-up recognised by the Australian Training Recognition Council. Thus the Frampton Institute began.

As Director of Learning, Peter conducted all training and assessment at the Institute for over ten years then he continued to work closely alongside his hand-selected teaching staff to continue to provide all assessment and extra curricular master classes in specialist areas. Students came from all over the world to be trained by him.

Peter’s own high profile enhanced the reputation of the Frampton Institute and the Diploma of Cinemagraphic Make-Up achieved international recognition.
